Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Institute for Healthcare Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Engineering. WIHSE researchers apply the principles of human factors and systems engineering to improve the quality and safety of work processes, working life, and health care. 

Anticipated Start Date:

January 2020

Anticipated End Date (If Applicable):

This opportunity spans multiple semesters and summers. 

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

10-15 hours/week during semesters.

Up to 40 hours/week but no more than an average of 29 hours/week over a 12-week period (per University regulations) during the summer. 

Schedule:

We offer flexible work hours to accommodate class schedules. 

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$11.00/hour

Qualifications:

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, communication and writing skills are required. 

  • Knowledge of Endnote, Adobe Acrobat, WordPress, and Microsoft Office software package including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Office 365 is required. 

  • Capacity to work with multiple groups (faculty, staff, students, and other professionals) in a fast-paced, highly energetic, professional research environment is necessary. 

  • Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, detail-oriented and willing to accept and initiate new projects and fully engage in WIHSE activities. 

  • Able to work during the summer. 

Position Summary/Job Duties:

This position provides support for WIHSE research and administrative activities such as: maintaining WIHSE physical and electronic references, assisting with administrative functions such as supply ordering, maintaining and updating websites, monitoring and updating WIHSE social media accounts, monitoring email accounts, travel reimbursement submissions for staff, and providing research support to WIHSE researchers and graduate students. 

 Assist with administrative functions for WIHSE 

  • Maintain and update websites so they are current and accurately reflect WIHSE staff, research and publications, and news and events. 

  • Monitor and update WIHSE social media accounts with WIHSE news and events. 

  • Monitor and order supplies as needed or requested. 

  • Submit travel expense reports for WIHSE staff. 

  • Write and update procedures. 

  • Respond to or redirect WIHSE emails. 

 Manage WIHSE library of electronic journals  

  • Search for, retrieve and update journal article citations and associated PDFs for inclusion in Endnote databases. 

  • Print requested journal articles for WIHSE staff. 

  • Apply for PMCID numbers for WIHSE staff and student journal articles that have NIH funding. 

  Perform duties related to research projects as needed 

  • Perform data entry. 

  • Download and organize data outputs from qualitative data analysis software. 

  • Clean transcripts of audio-recordings. 

  • Maintain and update mock-ups of clinical decision support tools. 

 Other duties as assigned.
