Department Overview:

The Materials Research Science and Engineering Center education group integrates the discovery of new knowledge in materials science with creation of research-inspired educational materials, innovative programs that broaden participation in STEM fields, industry outreach to promote economic advancement, and professional development opportunities that train the next-generation US workforce.

Qualifications:

UW-Madison student who is responsible, independent, organized, motivated, and willing to learn.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must have basic chemistry and physics knowledge (through introductory chemistry and physics courses), knowledge of engineering is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and similar software. Experience working in Wordpress, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is beneficial but not required. Experience with building tools a plus. Experience in a lab setting and Makerspace use preferred, but not required. Training provided. Knowledge of Spanish a plus, but not required.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Helping to design, build, and test educational activities inspired by the cutting-edge research in the center. Helping at large outreach events and occasionally at smaller events, which requires activity set up and take down, engaging audiences in various ages, and communicating science and engineering to those audiences.

Physical Demands:

Lifting up to 25 lbs, ability to work with hands to design, build, and test educational activities, occasional large events will require standing for long periods of time.
