Department Overview:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of Cybersecurity provides a variety of IT Security services for UW-Madison and UW-System. This position will give you the opportunity to enhance professional skills such as critical analysis, quality assurance, and customer support/service. You will be working closely with the Office of Cybersecurity Incident Response and Cyber Defense domain leadership in helping to support the Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC) as well as vulnerability scanning of campus and beyond.

Schedule:
Looking for students who plan to work into the summer! We ask students to work 10-20 hours a week for Spring or Fall semesters with a potential for additional hours during summer or winter breaks. Students are asked to work at least some hours in at least one of the following breaks during a year - the Friday after Thanksgiving, the first 2 weeks of winter break, and/or spring break. Schedule is flexible within operational hours. CSOC hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM Central Time. Most of the CSOC is working remotely. We do have on-site/hybrid options. Equipment is provided regardless of remote/on-site work.
Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Qualifications:
Experience in prioritizing tasks and communicating in an efficient and professional manner. Basic understanding of established process workflows. Capable of working collaboratively with team members and other University colleagues. Can quickly adapt in a constantly-changing and diverse environment. Basic analytic and strategic thinking skills. Professional dependability and attention to detail. Must be able to work at least 10 hours per week during the semester
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
We are looking for students with a strong work ethic who are curious and would like to learn more about cybersecurity. Specific IT security training will be provided. No previous cybersecurity knowledge is required. All majors strongly encouraged to apply!
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Assist with the triage of reported incidents to the Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC) Assist with proactively scanning campus networks Assist with maintaining security control software and vulnerability assessment software Assist with the documentation of incident response and scanning procedures Assist with the collection and return of media, e.g. hard drives, etc involved in incident response events Assist with the generation of incident response and vulnerability scanning statistics Assist with account provisioning and Security Authorizations requests The position offers schedule flexibility so you can continue to work on your degree while providing the ability to make a difference in the Cybersecurity Incident Response and Cyber Defense domains on campus No previous cybersecurity or IT experience or knowledge is required and we strongly encourage all majors to apply for the position!
