Department Overview:

Communication Arts offers two tracks of study at the undergraduate level: Rhetoric and Communication Science, and Radio-TV-Film. At the graduate level, degrees are offered in Media and Cultural Studies, Rhetoric, Politics, & Culture, Film, and Communication Science. We teach media production courses as well as critical studies. Students and faculty in Communication Arts analyze the production and consumption of communication in all its forms: its influence and effects, its history and industry structures, the uses to which it is put, its characteristic forms and texts, and the technologies through which it is made, distributed, and used.

Schedule:

Work will be completed in shifts throughout the week. Shifts are subject to student availability but must fit between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Ideally, the candidate will work in shifts of 2-6 hours at predetermined times each week.

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled at UW-Madison as an undergraduate
- Expected graduation date of December 2026 or later is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with audio/visual equipment & tools
- Video editing
- Graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
- Photography
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Creative problem solving
- Organization
- Attention to detail

Position Summary/Job Duties:

- Edit videos to highlight Comm Arts classes, alumni successes, and student achievements
- Capture photos to share on social media
- Design posters and monitor slides for department promotion needs
- Write copy for social media
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to gather stories and create content
- Brainstorm and execute additional storytelling opportunities
