Department Overview:
UW-Madison Division of Extension and works alongside the people of Wisconsin to improve lives and communities. Extension serves the people and communities of Wisconsin by addressing local, statewide and national issues, improving lives through research-based education, fostering partnerships and action, and facilitating positive impacts. The intern will gain new or expanded knowledge of UW-Madison Division of Extension Kenosha County programs and how the local Extension office fulfills its mission to bring University resources to the local community. The intern will also learn how Extension conducts outreach to underserved and hard-to-reach audiences, partners with local post-secondary institutions and community organizations, and contributes to community initiatives through coalition work. The internship provides valuable pre- professional experience for educational, non-profit, and/or community-based careers.

Schedule:
The intern will work 10 to 20 hours per week Monday through Friday. Consistent weekly schedule with occasional weekend and evening hours. Intern will have input on schedule. Opportunity to extend internship through summer of 2026.

Qualifications:
• College student enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution for the spring 2026, and have at least a sophomore standing. Post-secondary institutions may include technical schools, two-year colleges, four-year colleges, or graduate or professional schools. Interns must reside and/or attend school in the state of Wisconsin. Enrolled college student having completed coursework with at least sophomore standing. • Provide own transportation to and from community-based work sites. • Employment will require a criminal background check. • Proficiency in Spanish Preferred Qualifications • Work or volunteer experiences with high school-aged youth. • Work or volunteer experiences with socially, economically and/or ethnically diverse populations. • Knowledge/experience researching and planning activities for peers or younger youth. • Knowledge/experience with leadership, youth leadership, peer mentorship, and/or supporting leadership in group-based settings. Employment will require a criminal background check Student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team to plan, implement, and evaluate community-based, non-formal educational programs that reach, and are accessible to, diverse audiences. • Ability to effectively teach and communicate ideas verbally, in writing, and through educational technology with high school aged youth. • Organizational and communication skills, with an interest in continue to develop skills. • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workplace priorities, along with being self- motivated and self-directed. • Basic computer skills including being able to navigate or learn how to use google drive, spreadsheets, adobe, Canva etc.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
• Assist with programming for youth who are underserved, including first-generation youth. • Facilitate activities that promote career exploration and learning how to navigate various post-secondary institutions and training opportunities. • Facilitate activities that contribute to youth leadership development and agency. • Prepare materials for program implementation in a timely manner. • Assist with marketing and outreach of UW-Madison Division of Extension, Kenosha County and Racine County programs at libraries, community events and organizations in Kenosha County and Racine County. • Other duties as assigned in an effort to gain a stronger understanding of overall Extension programming.
Physical Demands:
Ability to carry and load program supplies into vehicle whenever program necessitates it. Carts are available at office and multiple trips are encouraged.
