Department Overview:
The Middle East Studies Program’s mission (MESP) is to foster knowledge of the Middle East, its past and current economic, social, cultural, and political developments. MESP seeks to facilitate teaching, learning, research, and public awareness of the diverse array of Middle Eastern languages, cultures, and peoples that make this region so unique. All countries, topics and political positions are studied. Our broad interdisciplinary approach encompasses the humanities and social sciences as well as the arts and natural sciences. MESP sponsors conferences, speakers, training programs, and other activities related to the Middle East. MESP further seeks to guide and train students who plan to make a career in or related to the region. We prepare tomorrow’s leaders by equipping them with well-grounded knowledge about Middle Eastern languages and cultures.

Schedule:
Work hours are flexible; however, the ability to attend occasional meetings and events during regular working hours is required. While the majority of responsibilities may be completed remotely, some on-campus work is expected.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be full-time graduate students at UW–Madison in good academic standing. Ideal candidates will have academic interests in international or regional studies and ideally experience abroad. Additional desired qualifications include demonstrated some administrative experience, strong written and oral communication skills, familiarity with cross-cultural issues, and solid organizational skills with close attention to detail.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Experience with WordPress, Google Drive, Canva, and Eloqua is preferred, though willingness to learn is acceptable. Working knowledge of a Middle Eastern language is desirable.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Event promotion and on-site technical support (including Zoom) • Website maintenance and social media outreach • Outreach to alumni, graduate students, and community members for promotional purposes • Administrative support for the Director and Assistant Director
