Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL) is a full-service laboratory providing testing to the companion, exotic animal, and bull stud industries across the United States and Canada. We work closely with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) under the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD).

Must be a current student and able to work onsite. We’re looking for someone who is friendly, responsible, and eager to learn—qualities that are essential for success in this role.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
As a receptionist at the WVDL, your main job duties will be greeting visitors and answering our main phone line. Visitors can be maintenance workers, veterinary students, food deliverers, farmers, or veterinarians. Our lab is very secure, so we’ll teach you how to guide each visitor to follow our protocol (sign in, park in the appropriate spot, gain access to lab space through an approved employee, etc). Phone calls come from a similar array of people: pet owners, veterinarians, vet techs, solicitors, police departments, etc. We’ll teach you how to best direct each of these calls to the right staff member. You’ll also learn how to search our data system so that you can find the information you and the caller need. It’s a nuanced position, and we’re looking for a friendly and professional person to fill this role. We hope that person is you!
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment and visual acuity for reading documents, viewing computer screens, and handling office tasks. Clear verbal communication skills to interact with visitors and answer phone calls.
