Department Overview:

University Houses Preschool is licensed by the State of WI and accredited by the City of Madison. We share an obligation to provide high quality services for children and families, as well as to ensure high standards in teaching, research, outreach and services to the greater Madison, Middleton, and Verona areas as well as to university students, faculty and staff. Our mission and operation guidelines are in the Wisconsin’s Administrative Code DCF 251, Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers.

Build your schedule, 1-5 days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $18.00

Qualifications:

Warm, friendly personality and able to relate well to children. Sensitive to the feelings and needs of others.
Professional demeanor towards children, families, parent helpers, and co-workers.
Able to work with co-teacher in cooperation with the Director and/or Administrator, other teachers, members of the UHP Board, and all families of the school to provide a stimulating and safe environment for the children.
At least 18 years of age.
Experience as an assistant child care teacher in a group child care center or other approved early childhood setting preferred.
Able to lift 2 -7-year-old children if needed up to 50 pounds.
Complete a background check.
We will assist you to fulfill other required training for the position.
Maintain vaccination for COVID-19.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Classroom Responsibilities

A1. Demonstrate high quality and initiative in the planning and facilitation of a daily program of care and activities for the lunch bunch classroom according to best practices in early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practice.

a. Set up (move tables when appropriate) and prepare materials (napkins, utensils, cups, and water pitcher) for lunch bunch.
b. Participate in lunch bunch daily routines and jobs as requested by fellow teachers.
c. Assist with large and small group learning activities and provide supervision and guidance to all children while they are engaged in child initiated and teacher directed activities.
d. Implement classroom’s child guidance program.
e. Assist children in areas of self-help skills (eating, dressing, toileting).
f. Assist in preparation and clean up of snack and/or lunch, as needed.

A2. Ensure the safety and well being of the children.

A3. Assist in the arrangement of space, setting and materials in the school learning environments (e.g. classroom, outdoors, etc.).

A4. Effectively observe and share information with other staff and parents regarding child’s experiences.

A5. Communicate effectively with parents on a daily basis.

Physical Demands:

Getting up and down from the floor on a continuous basis, to interact with children on their level and to helping them settle on mats during circle time.
Sitting on small chairs 12” off the floor, throughout the day.
Lifting 2, 3, 4, and 5 year old children up to 30 pounds if needed.
Bending over to wipe off low tables and floor spills.
Reaching containers from upper shelves.
Maintain vaccination for COVID-19.
Performing other duties relevant to the needs of the program, as determined cooperatively by the UHP staff, UHP Board, and Director.
