Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are seeking native or near-native French speaker, to tutor one middle school student preparing for two major French competitions: Le Grand Concours and Le Concours Oral. This role focuses on helping students use official preparation materials, review practice exams, and improve pronunciation and oral fluency. One tutoring session may involve working with small groups of up to three students, particularly when students are preparing group performances for the oral competition.

Le Grand Concours (National French Competition)

A nationally recognized French language and culture competition that tests:

  • Listening comprehension

  • Reading comprehension

  • French culture & general knowledge

Le Concours Oral (Wisconsin State French Contest)

A virtual oral competition focused on speaking skills. Students compete in one category of their choice, such as:

  • Speaking

  • Reading aloud

  • Acting

  • Singing

Qualifications:

  • Native or near-native proficiency in French

  • Prior experience with Le Grand Concours and/or Le Concours Oral (as a participant, tutor, or instructor)

  • Experience working with middle school–aged students (teaching, tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling, etc.)

  • Strong knowledge of French pronunciation, grammar, and oral expression

  • Ability to review practice exams, explain errors clearly, and provide constructive feedback

  • Patient, supportive, and encouraging teaching style

  • Reliable, organized, and comfortable working independently
