Department Overview:

MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50+ fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills and recreation program planning knowledge, ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, general computer knowledge and proven leadership abilities.
Ability to build positive mentoring relationships with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Experience, interest and skill in working with children from diverse backgrounds.
Proven dependability, teamwork and enthusiasm.
CPR, AED and First Aid Certification a plus.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Job Description & Duties:
The Assistant Site Director is responsible for supporting the Site Director in the daily operation of a specific after school or summer program. Each site will provide a safe, enriching, and welcoming environment in which participants participate in activities that build social, emotional and academic skills and provide recreational opportunities. Assistant Director will build positive relationships with participants and hold high expectations for behavior. Other duties include:

Facilitate the operation of and supervise the afterschool and summer program. Afterschool programs may include academic tutoring and/or homework time, recreational activities, social and emotional development, field trips and conflict resolution.
Take over the site supervisor’s duties as needed when he/she is absent.
Fill in for absent staff at supervisor’s request.
Coordinate supply purchases for planned activities.
Act as parent liaison when supervisor is unable to do so.
Become familiar with site administrative systems for data collection and site communication.
Become familiar with and ensure staff and participants follow MSCR and district policies and procedures.
Maintain positive connection and communication with school and community partners.
Train, support and assist with evaluation of After School staff and volunteers.
Facilitate open communication with parents of program participants, participants, staff and with the building principal.
Establish and ensure a physically and emotionally safe program environment.
Guide and support staff with participant behavior management techniques.
Administer first-aid and/or medication in site supervisor’s absence or as needed.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Facilitate check in of participants, maintain attendance records and send attendance records to designated program assistant weekly.
Set-up and clean-up program areas.
Facilitate the distribution of snack in compliance with MMSD and DPI standards and
regulations.
Make announcements as needed.
Stay for late pick-ups and/or no pick up. In the event of an extended late pick up or no pick-up, the assistant should contact parents, emergency contacts or Dane County Social Services.
Communicate and document any significant events.
Communicate any significant staff issues with Site Director.
Ensure that program participants and staff follow the site’s behavior and participation expectations.

Work Location: Memorial High School.

Hours/week: Up to 18.5 hrs/week during school year (Hours may occasionally exceed 18.5 hrs/week, but must be pre-approved by the program supervisor. Full time positions available during summer.
