Department Overview:
The Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) program welcomes more than 17,000 students and family members each year. The undergraduate SOAR Program Interns serve as essential leaders and paraprofessionals for the SOAR program; They work to assist in the implementation of SOAR through the Student and Guest programs, providing the best possible experience for new students and their guests. This position works collaboratively with all SOAR interns to help facilitate the new student transition to UW-Madison. Multiple SOAR Program interns will be selected and will work collaboratively to complete the responsibilities below.

Schedule:
Must be able to work Spring (January-May) and Summer (June, July, and August). Fall 2024: two Intern Staff meetings before winter break - TBD January SOAR: January 9, 10, 13-16 Spring 2025: 8-12 hrs per week Summer 2025: On average 40 hrs per week (Mid-May to Mid-August) September 2025: 5-10 hrs total (Wisconsin Welcome Programming) *Intern end date will be in early September 2024; There is an option to stay on for optional events i.e. Family Weekend (October).

Required Qualifications: Full-time undergraduate student enrollment for Spring and Fall ‘25 Be able to strongly represent OSTFE’s core values: Inclusion, Education, Integrity, and Collaboration Maintains a strong commitment to easing the UW-Madison transition for students and families Must have strong communication skills, pay attention to details, be timely, and is organized Must be able to work independently and collaborate in a team-oriented setting Must be in good academic and non-academic standing with the University at the time of application, hire, start of employment, and through the duration of employment. All non-academic misconduct will be reviewed for employment consideration. OSTFE retains the right to check the grade point averages and student conduct during hiring and employment. SOAR Interns must abide by all University policies, rules, and regulations at all times throughout employment Preferred Qualifications: Prior involvement in SOAR (i.e. OA, NSL, Peer Advisor, etc.) *preference will be given to those with previous SOAR involvement Prior work experience in customer-facing positions Prior experience with team leadership or community building Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Google Drive

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Supervision and Community Building Coordinate recruitment efforts in spring semester for New Student Leaders (NSLs), who are undergraduate students that help facilitate the SOAR Program Assist in the interview and selection process for New Student Leaders (NSLs) Create and manage the NSL staff schedule for the summer Team supervise ~22 NSLs throughout the summer; Lead bi-weekly staff meetings during SOAR Integrate creative energizers, traditions, and activities to build community amongst the staff Provide development opportunities and accountability for staff members Training and Presenting Collaborate with Operation Interns to provide effective training, leadership strategies, and community building to all SOAR staff (NSLs and Orientation Assistants, OAs) Communicate with Orientation Coordinators and various campus partners to create a 2-week training schedule for overall SOAR team Create and present at least 1 training presentation Co-Develop and facilitate SOAR Student Evening Program Co-Present the SOAR Welcome Session to over 600 guests daily Facilitate the SOAR Program daily, alternating between Student Program and Guest Program SOAR Program Logistics and Support Positively represent UW-Madison, the SOAR Program, and the Office of Student Transition and Family Engagement Provide excellent customer service and accurate information to new students and guests Communicate with Campus Partners as needed about SOAR logistics, presentations, etc. Manage technology as needed during SOAR Program Meet regularly with the Program Coordinator of Orientation as well as other OSTFE interns to assist in the success of the SOAR program
Physical Demands:
Must be able to get around campus as needed. Must be able to work long periods of time interacting with others.
