Position Summary/Job Duties:

The UW Genetics shared fly food ‘kitchen’ is looking for help preparing fly media and washing glassware over the winter break (and potentially continuing on into the spring semester and beyond). Multiple labs on campus use the model Drosophila melanogaster and this shared resource supports these labs by preparing consistent and high-quality fly media for raising fruit flies. This position is not directly a research position, but it has a high impact on the research of multiple labs. AS such, reliability and attention to detail are the most important attributes in a candidate, along with the willingness to get your hands dirty- preparing fly food is messy work. Starting pay is $16/hour and the expected time commitment is 20 hr/week over winter break. Hours could be renegotiated if the student wishes to continue on after the start of semester. The fly food is prepared each week on the same day (preferably Tuesday), so some regular hours are necessary, but the hours dedicated to glassware preparation could be done on a more flexible schedule once training has been completed. Applications will be reviewed as received as we hope to fill the position as soon as possible.

Physical Demands:

Will be required to lift items up to 30 lbs.
