Department Overview:

UW Connects, housed in the Office of State Relations, is a University of Wisconsin-Madison statewide engagement unit with the dual purpose of unifying outreach activities on campus, while serving as a one-stop-shop for people around the state looking for UW information and resources.

Schedule:

Schedule varies based on student class schedules and schedules of schools requesting visits. Please do not apply unless you have at least one four hour block of open time between 8am and 3pm any one day Monday-Friday... or no classes on Fridays. Flexible hours can range from 2-15 hours per week depending on assignments accepted.

Qualifications:

Must be Sophmore or Junior standing, or graduate student with at least one year on campus; Please DO NOT APPLY if you do not have at least one 4 hour block of open time between 8am and 3pm any one day of the week, Monday-Friday, or no classes on Fridays. Preference will be given to those with previous experience working with youth. We are looking for students who are passionate about higher education, like working with younger students, and want to be part of a fun team!

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Paid training included. Must be comfortable working in teams, presenting in front of classes, and working with younger students. Education students and those wanting to teach professionally are encouraged to apply!

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Using a fun, simple lesson, ambassadors engage in 7th grade classrooms around Wisconsin to lead 60 to 90 minute session to share their UW experience and present college planning information in a fun, interactive way. Its also a great way to meet other UW students! The goal of the program is to help 7th grade students build a better understanding of college both academically and socially, gain knowledge about resources to help pay for college, explore possible career options and discover the importance of establishing a strong foundation for their future, rooted in education. We are proud to say that 100% of teachers surveyed over the past two years say that their students are more likely to attend college after participation in Bucky’s Classroom. Bucky's Classroom covers travel and meal expenses.
