Department Overview:
The Center for Patient Partnerships, an interdisciplinary cross-campus center, is a medical-legal partnership that offers (1) experiential graduate-level patient advocacy education to students from those disciplines and others, and (2) undergraduate education in the social determinants of health and community resources. The curriculum is primarily service-learning based, with a focus on health advocacy (and relevant laws and policies), patient-centered care, and leadership for health systems transformation. Please note that this position does not include tuition remission.

Qualifications:
Qualified graduate, professional, or undergraduate student. Previous experience and/or interest in the following areas: working with people experiencing serious and/or crisis health events/challenges, processes for attaining health care and social services, interviewing skills and/or strong communication skills, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, writing, and creating data visuals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Required: - Strong interest in social science and social research for advancing health and well-being - Experience working with diverse communities - Basic experience with qualitative data analysis (e.g., coding data, identifying themes, working with another analyst) - Establishing rapport with others and creating a safe environment for conversations - Comfort with addressing sensitive, personal, and challenging life experiences in conversations - Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Word and Excel - Responsible, reliable, with attention to detail - Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and accessible way, in speaking and in writing, with and for various audiences - Ability to work in a team setting Preferred: - Basic experience with quantitative data collection and analysis; proficiency with quantitative data analysis software is a plus - Some experience working with small datasets - Creating data visuals
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The student will support evaluating the LGBTQ+ Health Justice Clinic and other Center for Patient Partnerships priorities by collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and reporting data and findings. The data will primarily be qualitative (interviews) but may also include quantitative (demographic and program use) data. The student will be interviewing past clients of the LGBTQ+ Health Justice Clinic to assess the effectiveness of the clinic and identify areas for growth. The student will help finalize the interview protocol and recruit participants. The student will analyze qualitative data, identify themes, and interpret results with collaborator(s) from the Center for Patient Partnership. The student will write up findings and results and prepare tables, charts, and visualizations. The student will present findings in various formats to interested parties. The student will receive guidance and support from members of the Center for Patient Partnerships staff. The position requires a balance of working independently and collaborating with team members to achieve shared goals. This position will execute qualitative analysis and possibly basic quantitative analysis of smaller datasets, but not machine learning or big data techniques. You don't need to be an expert to apply; there is opportunity for on-the-job training and skill building. Tasks related to qualitative data collection include: creating, testing, and iteratively refining interview protocols, recruiting and scheduling interviews, transcribing interview recordings, and creating a coding scheme and coding data. Tasks related to reporting and organizing data include: drafting summaries and results from institutionally collected data—including charts and other visualizations—as well as editing reports. This position will also include working with staff to create and merge datasets, and the use of data analysis software for basic formatting and transferring of qualitative data. It may also include project archives maintenance, and development and maintenance of projects in qualitative data analysis software. Please Note: This is a student hourly position and does NOT include tuition remission.
