Department Overview:

The Digital Services at the Wisconsin Historical Society is responsible for the digitization of historical collections and providing access to those assets through our Digital Asset Management system.

Part-time, daytime shifts, flexible hours to accommodate class schedules.

Qualifications:

-Federal Work Study funding is required
-Proficiency in using a Windows operating system
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

-Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
-Ability to be flexible in an environment with changing needs and priorities
-Maintains a high level of accuracy and consistency in routine, detail-oriented work
-Comfortable working independently and contributing collaboratively within a team environment
-Ability to accurately follow written procedures and complete tasks step by step


Position Summary/Job Duties:

Support the Digital Services Department in its daily operations and ongoing priorities, including but not limited to:
• Prepare materials for digitization in accordance with established guidelines.
• Operate a variety of scanning equipment to digitize historical materials, including but not limited to bound volumes, paper-based collections, photographic materials, and microfilm.
• Perform basic image quality adjustments, such as cropping and straightening.
• Create and maintain metadata for digitized materials.
• Utilize optical character recognition (OCR) software to process images of historic newspapers.
• Organize digital files following established standards.
• Assist with patron-driven digitization requests.
• Support departmental server organization and cleanup initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to pick up and move items of up to 50 pounds
