Qualifications:

Currently enrolled as a UW-Madison undergraduate student (preference given to a student who can commit to a minimum of two semesters)

Familiarity with University Health Services

Strong communication, collaboration, interpersonal and organizational skills

Familiarity with digital cameras, DSLR or mirrorless camera equipment (office-owned Sony equipment is available for use by the student)

Familiarity with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Premiere or other photo/video editing software

Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines while working independently and cooperatively on projects.

Excited to build your portfolio and share your work

Desire to create storytelling content to discuss and communicate on a variety of health topics

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience producing photo and video content for a client, class or publication.

Familiarity with photographing and processing RAW digital files (such as using Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom).

Familiarity with photo and video captioning, alt-text writing, keywording, applying metadata to files, and digital asset management.

Familiarity with video recording.

Familiarity with editing videos using Adobe Premiere Pro or other timeline-based software.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

University Health Services (UHS) Marketing & Health Communications team is responsible for the communications needs of UHS, including creating photo, video, and animation needs for the departments within UHS. We promote events, programming, and public health education, as well as serving as the source of critical health information for our campus community. The photo and video student assistant will create photos, videos and animation materials for the UHS website, social media, newsletters, digital screens, print materials, and more.

This is an opportunity to gain photography and video experience by helping to promote UHS. The photo and video student assistant will photograph subjects and obtain their permission for being in marketing materials, work independently to capture photo and video on assignments, and help keep our digital library of photos and videos organized.

The student in this role will work under the guidance of UHS’s Multimedia Designer and the marketing department to help provide visual coverage of UHS events. Assignments will include photography and videography of UHS events and programs, capturing photography and videography of UHS providers and spaces, and social media coverage, as well as digital processing, image captioning, electronic publishing, and distribution.

Carrying or transporting camera gear up to 20lbs
