Based in the Computer Sciences Department, Internet Scout Research Group is one of the oldest and most respected digital library research centers in the US.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED
▪ Substantive experience setting up and maintaining Linux-based servers.
▪ Comfortable with shell scripts and the Linux shell.
▪ Experience with Apache and MySQL/MariaDB configuration.
▪ Excellent written communication skills
▪ Must be available to work at least 12-15 hours per week
▪ Must be a student at UW-Madison
▪ Must be slated to graduate on or after December 2025
PREFERRED
▪ Experience with Python programming/scripting.
▪ Experience using Ansible for configuration revision control.
▪ Experience with Linux virtualization using libvrt/kvm.
▪ Experience managing storage with lvm, md, and drbd.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Substantive experience setting up and maintaining Linux-based servers.
Comfortable with shell scripts and the Linux shell.
Experience with Apache and MySQL/MariaDB configuration.
Excellent written communication skills

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Internet Scout Research Group is looking for a student with experience in web software development to help us create and maintain new web and digital repository software and services.

Physical Demands:

Sitting - Remaining in a seated position
Near Visual Acuity - Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e. reading small print on a computer screen)
Keyboarding - Entering text or data into a computer by means of a keyboard
Lifting/carrying - Raising or lowering an object from one level to another
