Department Overview:

The Social Work Library serves the information needs of students, faculty, and staff in the School of Social Work.The library collection covers a wide range of social issues and problems, with a focus on social work practice. Our staff strives to maintain a personal approach in our daily interactions with our users.

Anticipated Start Date:

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

5-10 hours per week.

Schedule:

The Social Work Library will be open in the summer for the dates and times that we have listed below. Student workers can work regular weekly shifts during any of our open hours. Students usually choose to work 5-10 hours per week but more hours are also possible. Anyone who works in the summer will also be eligible to work in the fall.

SUMMER OPEN DATES/TIMES for May 11 - Aug. 30.
Saturdays and Sundays: CLOSED.
May 11-19: Open Monday-Friday 12-4 PM.
May 27 (Monday): CLOSED.
May 20-Aug. 11: Open 10 AM-4 PM.
June 6 (Thursday): CLOSED
July 4-5 (Thursday and Friday): CLOSED
Aug. 12-30: Open Monday-Friday: 12-4 PM

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$14 per hour.

Number of Positions:

2 to 3 positions are open.

Qualifications:

Student status is required but you do not have to be registered for summer classes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Previous work experience in libraries and with the library computer system is not required. We will provide all training. We are looking for students:

* Who are motivated and enthusiastic to work at the UW Libraries.
* Who enjoy organizing and following detailed procedures.
* Who are committed to work assigned shifts.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
* Check out and return library materials for patrons.
* Fill patron requests, including scanning material and preparing items for delivery.
* Process class reserves.
* Help to maintain and organize our print collection and our library spaces.
* Answer basic questions about our collection and methods for finding and using materials.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to retrieve and re-shelve books in the library. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
