Position Summary/Job Duties:

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone going into elementary or special education, child psychology, or who just loves to spend time with kids.

The Cross Plains Parks and Recreation Department is hiring one or more staff members to support a child with special needs at our Full Day Camp this summer. Among other things, this child enjoys being with his peers, playing hide and seek, building train tracks, and soccer. Our program focuses on child-lead play and choice, and this child will have the same opportunities to play and make choices as the other children and will be fully included into the group.

All staff members of our Full Day Summer Camp program will have the opportunity to attend 4 in-service training dates between now and the end of May, along with a required training meeting on Sunday, June 9. Camp dates are June 10-August 30, with the week of July 1 off. Program hours are 7:30am - 5:30pm and this position's hours will coordinate with this specific child's attendance. Ideally this will be an 8 hour shift, 5 days a week, but we are willing to be flexible with shorter or less frequent shifts. On days the child is absent, regardless of the reason, this staff member will be able to keep their usual hours if desired.

Cross Plains is located about 25 minutes west of campus and you will need access to your own transportation.

Qualifications:

- Experience working with children. Prefer experience working with children who have special needs, but not required.

- Model appropriate and expected camper behavior.

- Follow the lead of Recreation Staff Lead to work through daily schedule of events

- Reliable transportation.

- Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking, and running during the day.

- Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

- First Aid and CPR Preferred or willingness to become trained.

Physical Demands

Ability to frequently stand, walk, and run during the day. Comfortable with spending a lot of time outdoors in summer temperatures, in shaded and sunny locations.
