Department Overview:

We are looking for adults with childcare experience who are energetic, creative, & dedicated to work with children in grades K-5. These children are from a highly diverse group of socio-economic backgrounds. Camp Caboose is licensed by the State of Wisconsin & an accredited child care program by the City of Madison.

We are located at Marquette Elementary school for the summer, easily located off of the bus and bike route.

Schedule:

The AM counselor shift is  7:30am-1:30pm five days a week or the PM, Counselor position is 12pm-6pm five days a week (Includes weekly staff meetings & planning time). The PM counselor includes the potential for additional hours subbing in the AM as needed. 

Required Camp Training May 19 - 21.  Friday evening, optional overnight, All day Saturday Training, and half day Sunday.  Meals provided, and door prizes. Additional training the day of May 24th. 

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $16.65 to $17.45

Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are a child-centered, choice-based environment so part of our day is free choice and outside. Each day also offers projects, activities, and active games. In addition the feature of each day at Camp Caboose is the Monday Blast off, Tuesday and Thursday swimming trips, Wednesday field trip, and Friday Fiesta. 

In the Camp Counselor position you would be supervising a group of students either going into first through second grade, or going into third through sixth grade. You will support the group Captains in facilitating activities and projects, and additionally supervise free play time, outside time as well as planning a Monday Morning Blast off with the other AM counselors, or a Friday Fiesta with the PM counselors. 

Camp training and set up will be May 17-19, Camp Set up June 7th and 10th.  Camp runs June 11th through August 15th.  Pay increases after training is complete and all orientation paperwork is handed in. 

Qualifications:

Childcare workers must be over 18 years old, must pass a background check in accordance with state licensing through the Department of Children and Families.

Education requirements include child development/child care equivalent coursework; may substitute classes in elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field or have equivalent experience. 

At least one year experience with school aged children in an after school or summer camp program preferred.

If committed to completing licensing required coursework in childcare and education, Red Caboose may reimburse for coursework upon completion if a reliable candidate doesn't have the courses.
