Schedule:
Summer
20-40 hours per week, positions based on availability & operational need, flexible scheduling options may be available, schedule will be set upon hire.
Shifts available 7:30AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday, some overtime may be available on weekends.
Seasonal : This position is considered seasonal during the summer months and is exempt from the 89-day rule in regard to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Hours worked may exceed 30 hours/week during the summer months.
Academic Year
Flexible Scheduling based on your academic availability and operational need.
16 hours a month required, 10 hours per week preferred.
Shifts available between 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday, some weekend hours as operationally needed.
Shifts are a minimum of 2 hours.
Salary/Wage Range:
Hourly $15.00 to $15.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Assist in minor and major maintenance of mechanical equipment, architectural building components and grounds. Gather equipment data from various Housing facilities.
Independently perform, as well as assist other student and career staff in completing:
Moving, installation, storage, and removal of window air conditioners as required
Troubleshooting various maintenance issues
Preparing rooms for residents and guests, including minor room repairs and general maintenance
Working as a team with other Maintenance staff in performance of maintenance projects, including cleaning of air conditioners, cleaning of drier vents, repairing of window screens, and other maintenance work as assigned
Participate in general project work, including equipment moving, storage room clean-outs, hauling of trash and scrap to recycling areas, moving of bicycle racks
Perform basic and planned maintenance on equipment in buildings including: various food service equipment, air handling units, exhaust fans, light fixtures, doors, hardware, etc.; assemble various carts and shelving units; move equipment and supplies between facilities as needed
Work both independently as well as collaboratively when assisting other mechanics as needed
Work collaboratively with Maintenance and Trades Worker Lead to inspect work areas
Report safety, security and damage problems to Supervisor and assist Maintenance Staff as needed; follow procedures to maintain worker safety and building security
Be professional and helpful at all times, communicate clearly and accurately, report building maintenance issues, follow-up with customers as needed
Communicating with a large, diversified staff both verbally and via email as needed
Monitoring and handling work orders using a computer-based maintenance program
Gather equipment data from various Housing facilities
Perform special projects as needed
Participate and attend all Maintenance Team meetings and trainings
Summer specific duties:
Assist lead workers and mechanics in work in unoccupied spaces including, vent cleaning, filter replacements, smoke detector battery replacements, and fixture updates
Prep work areas for others, including moving equipment and supplies to the appropriate locations
Conduct building assessments for repairs and updates between occupancy
Qualifications:
Must be able to regularly lift objects weighing approximately 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in warm and humid spaces.
Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and squat to perform work.
Experience using various hand tools is preferred
Familiarity with University Housing operation preferred.
A valid, unrestricted driver’s license which meets UW Risk Management standards is preferred.
Satisfactory results of a confidential criminal background check are required.
