Math Corps is powered by AmeriCorps members who serve as tutors. Started in 2008, Math Corps has helped more than 55,000 kids in grades K-8 build foundational skills and get on track with math. Math Corps is an Ampact educational program that is fueled by research from the National Science + Service Collaborative. As a national organization, Ampact demonstrates the power of national service to solve complex social problems by creating innovative programs that focus on the key areas of education, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures for communities.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
As a Math Tutor, your crucial role will impact the lives of many children and offer vital assistance to those who need extra help in understanding math concepts. You will immerse yourself in a local school to support students in fourth through eighth grades. You'll help them succeed by providing extra practice and skill-building in groups of two to three students. With training and on-site coaching, you'll be prepared to empower students in their math journey. Your commitment during school hours throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact.

How You’ll Take Action
Be a caring adult who’s focused on helping students build their skills and confidence.
Track student progress and regularly meet with the school’s on-site coach.
Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software.
Commit to your own growth as a tutor through coaching, training, and professional development.
Represent Math Corps at school events and share your experience with the community to raise awareness.

It Starts with a Passion
Math Corps takes everyday people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to make a difference — and meet the following minimum qualifications.
By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:
Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
Able to understand and follow instructions.
Open to making improvements based on feedback.
Capable of setting a pace and maintain a schedule with students.
Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
Able to successfully complete a background check .
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, click here .

Physical Demands
Sitting up to 20 minutes at a time. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
