Schedule:

We are looking for a student who can start by January and is willing to work in the lab for 1 year or more. The workload will be up to 15 hours a week. Hours are flexible but should consist of approximately 3-4 shifts spread throughout the week during normal working hours (~8-6 PM). There is also a potential for independent study for students who show initiative and work well in this position.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Morgridge Institute for Research seeks a Student Lab Assistant to work in Dr. Jing Fan’s Metabolism lab.

Responsibilities include:

  • Sterilizing lab equipment
  • Cleaning dishes and autoclaving waste
  • Prepare media and solutions
  • Animal husbandry, maintaining mice colony
  • Genotyping mouse colony (PCR and gel electrophoresis)
  • Keep track of supplies
  • Assist with experiments
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Prior knowledge and experience with lab equipment or animal husbandry is preferred, but not required (candidates will be trained for the tasks). Candidates must be detail-oriented, demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and they must be able to multitask and work in a timely manner.
