Department Overview:

Beomor Farm provides horses with a natural herd lifestyle and compassionate care. Horses at Beomor enjoy herd life in well-maintained pastures and dry lots, all with large shelters and waterers. With a limit of twelve horses there are no crowded arenas or other big barn struggles. Humans enjoy a heated barn including a spacious tack room, clubhouse with kitchen, restroom, wash stall and grooming/tacking areas. Boarders also have unlimited access to the utility and feed rooms. The grounds include a large, bright, dust free indoor arena, outdoor dressage arena, outdoor working equitation arena with ease of handling course set up April to November. Groomed trails traverse two hundred acres of rolling cropland, oak savannah, prairie plots, and farm lanes. Biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and environmental awareness drive the practices at Beomor. An agricultural scrape (pond), soil conservation, manure composting system, pasture maintenance, and planful horticulture support these goals.

Schedule:

The horse boarding facility is open 8am to 6pm during the summer and 8am to 5pm in the winter. The schedule would be within those hours of operation with the exception of snow removal which would require an earlier start time. Minimum of at least 12 hours per week. 

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $18.00 to $22.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

A farm hand/ handy person is responsible for a variety of tasks here at Beomor including:

  • Repair and maintain farm equipment and buildings
  • Operate a work truck with a snow plow 
  • Operate machinery such as tractors, bush hog, Bobcat and haymaking machinery
  • Operate lawn mowers (Scag) and other landscaping equipment
  • Monitoring and controlling pests and weeds
  • Maintaining the manure 02 compost 
  • Repair and maintenance of horse fencing and gates

Horse experience a plus but not required, will train on the individual farm equipment but some previous experience is greatly desired.  

The position includes a 20% off employee discount of the apartment rental which is normally $1500 and a discounted deposit of $150. Pets are allowed upon approval for $30 per pet/ per month. More then one occupant is acceptable.  It is a lofted 2BR/2BA with a garage that will be available after 1/1. 

Hourly wage is negotiable with level of experience. 

 

 

Qualifications:

To be a successful farm hand, the following skills and qualifications are essential:

  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labor for long periods of time
  • Knowledge of farming practices and machinery
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions
  • Flexibility to work long hours occasionally, weekends when necessary
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Ability to pass a basic background and credit check to qualify for the apartment rental
