Schedule:

Flexible scheduling. We can accommodate students taking courses over the summer. Research projects occasionally require working late at night and/or early in the morning. With experience, students can work evening and weekend hours.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

An on-campus position is available at the US Dairy Forage Research Center (located just east of the School of Veterinary Medicine) for an undergraduate student looking for laboratory experience and an opportunity to work with dairy cattle. Freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to apply

Duties to include: cleaning laboratory glassware; collection and recording of experimental data with in the laboratory and at the research farm; data entry; collection and processing feed and forage materials using laboratory balances, drying ovens, grinders, etc; collection experimental samples from research cows including urine, feces, blood and ruminal contents; assisting with analysis of feed and forage materials using routine laboratory methods and reagent preparation; assist graduate students, post-docs, interns with their research projects; assists other scientists at the center with collection and preparation of research samples when necessary. 

*Note: All duties for this position require in person work and cannot be done virtually.

Qualifications:

No experience required - all training provided. Freshmen/sophomores encouraged to apply. Must be a US citizen to apply to gain access to this federal facility. The federal hiring process takes several months to complete before the anticipated starting date and requires additional forms and paperwork.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, willingness to work with dairy cattle (training provided) and collect various samples from them
