This is Camp Wingra’s 17th year and we have built a reputation of having outstanding kid-centered camps. Campers return year after year and our camps fill quickly. We are looking for staff to continue this tradition of building the best outdoor program.

Campers from kindergarten grade through high school are welcome, and we pride ourselves on hiring the best counselors and having a low camper-staff ratio. 

Camp Wingra is looking for paddlers, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts who love being outdoors paddling and fishing and would like to spend a rewarding summer working with kids. If you love kids, love to paddle or fish, please apply. We are looking for both experienced anglers as well as experienced paddlers or outdoor enthusiasts who are dependable, work well with others, are self-motivated and understand what it takes to keep kids engaged and safe. We are looking to hire counselors who have a love for fishing or experience paddling, strong swimming skills, can lift and portage canoes and kayaks, and have a high level of energy and enthusiasm all day, every day.  Camp Wingra is a community staple, and our counselors pride themselves on being role models for our campers.

The 2025 summer season will go from June 4th to August 22nd.

If hired, you must be available from June 4th until Aug. 22nd with one week off June 28th-July 6th.  Typical hours are Mon-Fri from 7:30am-approx 4:30 pm. Counselors receive a weekly salary starting at $525. Counselors will also have free access to Wingra, Brittingham, and Marshall Boats 300+ watercraft in your off hours. Staff often comment that this is the best summer job!

Location:

Camp Wingra operates out of two fantastic locations: Wingra Boats at 824 Knickerbocker Street (off Monroe Street) and Marshall Boats at 2101 Allen Blvd (off University Ave.).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• HAVE FUN, AND BE FUN!

• Plan out and structure the week's activities.

• Facilitate ice breakers & team building activities.

• (Fishing counselors) Instruct campers on fishing skills from beginners to advanced camps 

• (Paddling counselors) Instruct campers on paddling and water safety skills

• Create an inclusive atmosphere & work cooperatively with other co-counselors.

• Perform administrative tasks, including calling camp parents, writing daily recaps, filling out forms, and all other tasks as needed to create an incredible experience for the campers.

Qualifications:

• Applicants need to have their boater safety certification (a short online course) by the start of camp.

• Applicants will receive additional training but should have some boating experience.

• Applicants should have strong fishing skills (if applying for the fishing counselor position)

• You should be organized, responsible, and enjoy being with children.

• Previous camp experience is a plus.
