Schedule:
This role's schedule is primarily on the weekends when mainstage shows are scheduled at MYArts. Shifts are typically 4-8 hours. The specific weekends are:
- April 5-20, 2025
- May 2-11, 2025
- Four weekends during the summer of 2025
This opportunity may extend beyond these dates, potentially offering a more steady schedule.
It has on-site work requirements at Madison Youth Arts Center (MYArts). There is bicycle parking onsite; numerous nearby bus routes; street and garage parking. This role involves standing, walking, and occasional bursts of rapid activity. Reasonable accommodations can be made.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
THE ROLE: You are the Patron Service Manager’s right-hand person and our dedicated Lead Usher for the 2024-25 season. This role involves ensuring the smooth operation of all public performances for both our summer stage and mainstage shows held at MYArts (Madison Youth Arts Center.) The Lead Usher will actively support the Patron Services Manager in creating a welcoming environment for patrons, overseeing volunteers, and occasionally managing the front-of-house operations during shows.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Assist the Patron Services Manager in welcoming patrons, manage volunteer ushers, and coordinate front-of-house activities.
In some instances, assume the role of house manager to ensure efficient and enjoyable audience experiences.
Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons, address inquiries, and resolve any issues that may arise promptly.
Communicate with the House Manager and Stage Manager about the house opening and show’s start time.
Address patron seating or personal needs and communicate with the House Manager or other CTM staff when needs arise.
Collaborate with the production team to maintain a safe and inviting environment for all theatergoers.
Qualifications:
Exceptional customer service coupled with a passion for the performing arts
Previous experience in front-of-house operations, theater, arts administration, volunteer work, or theater ushering roles is preferred but not required. If no previous experience, demonstrate a strong willingness to acquire and develop skills essential to front-of-house management.
Ability to remain composed and handle high-pressure situations effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on effective communication and delivering exceptional customer service.
Ability to maintain a lively and engaging atmosphere while demonstrating adeptness in resolving issues promptly and creatively.
