Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are looking for a kind, patient, supportive person to take our 90+-year-old father on very, very slow walks outdoors, with lots of stops to rest. Willingness to also (learn and) play Cribbage, SkipBo, or Quiddler on rainy days is a plus. He is forgetful and somewhat weak, so often needs reminding and limited assistance.

Job Duties:

  • Help put on and take off coat and shoes for outdoors
  • Remind to drink water
  • Take on a walk in the neighborhood (usually for about 1 hour), following his lead to walk very slowly, stopping frequently to catch a breath, often holding his hand for stability and/or providing a bit of support
  • When the walk is shorter (e.g., on rainy days), possibly also play a game (Cribbage, SkipBo, Quiddler, etc.) and/or sit and chat

Qualifications:

No special qualifications or experience necessary. Be kind, patient, and supportive, and speak English clearly enough for him to understand. Willingness to continue through the summer would be wonderful, but not required.

Physical Demands

Ability to walk very, very slowly without exhibiting impatience or discomfort.
