JOB DESCRIPTION

Seasonal Crew Position

 

Pay Rate: 18.00 per hour

 

Employee Status:  Seasonal, part-time (up to 30 hours per week), non-exempt.

 

SummaryReports to the Town Administrator and is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of Town trails and parks and Town maintenance.  Operate maintenance and construction tools and equipment and perform a variety of maintenance tasks. 

 

Scope of Responsibility:  Primary duties include mowing of parks and trails and chipping of tree limbs and brush. As an employee of the Town, the Town crew is expected to be courteous at all times and represent the Town in a professional and positive manner. 

 

Duties:

  • Assist with various tasks needed to maintain parks and trails. Attend regular Town Crew and safety meetings.
  • Assist with chipping of tree limbs and brush with the Town’s chipping machine.
  • Assist in maintenance of Town parks, playground equipment, trails and paths.
  • Utilize all safety standards and regulations and assure compliance with state and federal safety and labor regulations (i.e., OSHA, DOT, etc.).
  • Mow grass, cut brush, trim or remove trees, remove trash and any related task involved in park maintenance.
  • String trim
  • Assist in weed control
  • Perform other duties as necessary and as requested such as maintaining Town grounds.

 

Abilities:

  • Sufficient communication skills to be able to write, read, and speak correctly to interpret written information, policies, and rules.
  • Service and make repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) on a regular basis and heavier objects on an occasional basis.
  • Sit or stand for up to eight consecutive hours per work shift with periodic breaks.
  • Walk up to two miles on ungraded and unpaved surfaces per work shift.
  • Operate equipment including truck, trailer, lawn mower, chipper, and similar equipment of comparable size and complexity.  Operation of truck includes truck with trailer attached, must be able to back up truck and trailer accurately.

 

Prerequisites and Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations as they apply to motorized construction and maintenance equipment.

 

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics in this job description are representative of those encountered while performing the primary functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  While safety gear will be provided, the noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud. The employee will occasionally work with toxic and caustic chemicals. The employee must take adequate precautions to mitigate the risks of electrical shock, and the employee will experience medium to strong vibrations while operating equipment.
