The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

• Available shifts for the remainder of the school year are as follows: You would NOT need to work the total number of hours listed below in a given day, these are just the times that we are looking to cover in some way. We are mostly looking for Tuesday and Thursday's at this time. We do also ask that everyone has at least 1 day of weekend availablity, either Saturday or Sunday.  This does not mean you will always work a weekend day, it means that you have the ability to work.   When scheduling, I will never assign someone to work both a Saturday or Sunday, unless someone wants that schedule. Sundays: 7am-2pm Mondays: 7am to 2pm Tuesdays: 7am to 8pm Thursdays: 7am to 8pm Saturdays: 7am to 2pm   If you are interested in working this semester and into the summer as well, that is an option.  Or, if you are just looking to work next summer, that would also be an option.  Please specify on your application what type of employment you are interested in.  

Unit Hours

The kitchen is open from 6am to 8pm, 7 days a week.  We have limited hours during scheduled school breaks.

• Clean, sanitize and put away dinnerware and equipment used during each shift 
• Cleaning of kitchen and general areas 
• Assisting with food service as needed
• Production and packaging of deli items
• Organize food orders into their proper locations
• Maintain clean storage areas and coolers
• Assist with restaurant and catering food preparation 
  • E.g. Making soups, dressings and slicing foods
• Use various cooking and knife techniques
  • No prior experience needed

• Positive attitude and a team player
• Show attention to detail
• Willingness to learn cooking techniques and knife skills
• Enjoys food, cooking or interested in learning
• Flexibility and dependability

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
