Position Summary/Job Duties:

Location: Flexible — preference for a neutral public setting such as a local library
Schedule: 2x per week, 30-minute sessions (after school hours)
Start Date: Prefered Start Date 9/8/2025

About our family:
We’re seeking a compassionate, experienced reading tutor to support our elementary-aged son, a hardworking and eager 3rd grader diagnosed with dyslexia. He responds well to feedback, puts forth full effort, and is motivated to learn.

Goals of Tutoring:

  • Strengthen phonics and decoding skills

  • Improve reading fluency

  • Reinforce handwriting fundamentals

  • Support weekly spelling list practice

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, structured one-on-one lessons tailored to a 3rd grade learner with dyslexia

  • Create or curate materials focused on phonics instruction, fluency practice, and spelling support

  • Provide multisensory reading instruction when appropriate (e.g., Orton-Gillingham approach)

  • Track progress and adjust instruction as needed to support growth

  • Communicate with parents on goals, strategies, and progress

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with dyslexia or other reading challenges

  • Familiarity with evidence-based reading interventions (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Barton, etc.)

  • Background in elementary education, reading instruction, or special education

  • Patient, enthusiastic, and positive teaching approach

Location Notes:

We are flexible on location and would prefer to meet in a quiet, neutral public space such as a local library that is convenient for both parties.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly rate, based on experience and qualifications.
