Department Overview: | We are a family of four. One parent is a social work professor and the other is an engineer and professor of practice at UW-Madison. Our twins turn 7 in November and are starting 1st grade. Our home is full of sensory equipment (swings, crash pads, cozy corners, backyard, water play) with a fenced in backyard and is located near multiple parks.
|
Schedule: | We are open to hiring multiple people, but here are the hours that we would need support. If someone was looking for more hours than after school, we can extend later on one or multiple days to 7:30pm or 8pm or add weekend times. We are flexible on the exact situation but benefit from consistency for our routine-oriented kids and ourselves as working parents. These are the after school times that are most needed as core times. Saturdays and Sundays are flexible.
Mondays 2pm-6pm
Tuesdays 3:15-6pm
Wednesdays 3:15-6pm
Thursdays 3:15pm-6pm
Fridays 3:15pm-6pm

Position Summary/Job Duties: | We are University professors with twin 6-year-olds who are energetic, sweet, and fun. They are also autistic, mostly nonspeaking (have communication devices and use pictures, signs, words), sensory-seeking, and have high support needs (but are not physically disabled or medically fragile). They loved school last year in 5K and are looking forward to 1st grade! We are seeking after school and/or weekend support. They benefit from a lot of one-on-one support and engagement in activities. They love spending time with people, learning new things, being outside in the backyard, and playing in our basement sensory gym or nearby playgrounds/parks. They also like outings to places like Play N Wisconsin (where we have a membership).
Depending on the day, you may be spending time with both of them until one or both parents arrive home (after getting to know them with us around), spending one-on-one time with one child while the other is with another respite provider, supervising and supporting while they are in in-home speech/music/yoga therapies, or accompanying a parent to therapy outside the home (like occupational therapy or swimming).
It is NOT a requirement that you transport the children (though that is certainly a possibility). We are about a 10 minute walk from the D bus line (which I take to and from campus most of the time myself). We also have ample parking in our driveway and on the street.
Option to work additional hours on days that school is closed for a holiday or teacher work day, to begin work earlier than the start of the school year, or to extend a position into the summer. We have had respite providers who are in school for education, communication disorders, pre-OT/OT, counseling, and other related areas but that is not necessary. We have typically retained providers over a year or longer. Our two main providers have recently relocated back home to another state after completing school.
