We are looking for a caring, patient college student who enjoys working with young children and has an interest in elementary math education. This position is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in elementary education, mathematics education, or a related field who wants hands-on experience supporting early learners.

Our 6-year-old daughter is finishing first grade and would benefit from individualized support to strengthen foundational math skills and build confidence as she prepares for second grade. The goal is not only skill development, but also helping her see that math can be engaging, approachable, and part of everyday life.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Position: Summer Math Tutor (Elementary Level)
Location: Fitchburg, WI
Schedule: 1–2 sessions per week, 1 hour per session (with a few planned weeks off during summer)
Compensation: $30 per hour
Start Date: June, Summer

  • Provide one-on-one math support focused on foundational first-grade skills

  • Reinforce core concepts such as number sense, basic addition/subtraction, and problem-solving

  • Use creative, age-appropriate strategies to make math interactive and enjoyable

  • Incorporate real-life examples and hands-on activities to connect math to daily experiences

  • Encourage a growth mindset and build confidence through positive reinforcement

Ideal Candidate:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student

  • Pursuing (or seriously considering) a career in elementary education or math education

  • Patient, warm, and encouraging with young children

  • Able to explain concepts clearly in simple, engaging ways

  • Reliable and consistent

Prior tutoring or childcare experience is preferred but not required if you demonstrate a genuine interest in teaching and working with children.
