Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Banquet Manager must be knowledgeable of the proper operating procedures for each type of meal service Monona Catering offers to its guests. Monona Catering’s meal service includes but is not limited to: sit-down served meals, buffet-style meals and receptions, specialty stands, and permanent and portable cafeterias. He/she is responsible for the proper and timely setup, execution, and teardown of all the above meal services to the client’s satisfaction. He/she must control inventory according to upcoming needs to guarantee each meal service is properly equipped. It is essential that this person properly manages and accounts for incoming cash and/or hosted meals to secure proper billing information for the client.
As the Banquet Manager, you will oversee groups of staff, which include Wait Staff and Bar Staff. This includes but is not limited to training staff in all pertinent procedures and conscientiously adhering to policies as outlined in company memos and handbooks, our Collective Bargaining Agreement, and government regulations throughout all aspects of managing the catering staff.
Qualifications:
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the client and Catering Sales staff to ensure customer satisfaction with all meal services. This includes greeting the client at the start of the shift and providing floor coverage for meal functions.
Check in with all staff at the beginning of each shift and assist as needed.
Ensure the proper and timely execution of all meal services as requested by our clients. This includes, but is not limited to, supervising the setup, execution, and teardown of each event.
Make the appearance of all meal services pleasant and appetizing
Maintain inventory levels appropriate for upcoming events. Communicate all additional stock needs with the Director of Catering Operations and/or the Purchasing Department.
Assist in ordering all linen and supplies needed for upcoming events.
During cash service, account for all cash and products used.
During a hosted service, track all meals served for billing.
Must meet the requirements of being bonded.
Attend weekly managers’ meetings to discuss upcoming events. Perform any task expected of catering staff, when needed (i.e., cashiering, moving equipment, serving, lifting, etc.).
Prepare and distribute the weekly Catering Staff Schedule in accordance with CBA guidelines.
Make sure that AM and PM Shifts are covered 7 days a week when needed.
Attend weekly meetings with the Director of Catering Operations to go over departmental issues, schedules, staffing, etc.
Assign tasks for each worker scheduled to work under your supervision.
Work with the Director of Catering Operations, other Banquet Managers, Bar Captain, Leads, and Bartenders to develop and implement standards and guidelines for the bar department.
Work with Human Resources and the Director of Catering Operations on all personnel matters, including evaluations and disciplinary matters for catering staff.
Adhere to deadlines and turn in complete and accurate paperwork promptly
Work as a team with the other members in the catering department and all other departments, including City of Madison employees working in this building.
Maintain a pleasant and courteous manner when dealing with both your crew and the Monona Terrace guests.
Assist in finding replacement staff if a scheduled worker does not show up.
Request a high level of quality product from the staff you are leading.
Require a professional level of service, attitude, and attire from the staff you are leading. This includes uniforms and appearances as outlined in MC’s Dress Code, friendly and pleasant service to attendees, and show management.
Properly handle emergencies within Monona Catering and Monona Terrace building guidelines.
