Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider.  MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. 

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center.  Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description: 

MSCR sports camps are week-long and full-day (hours 8am-4:30pm). Each week, we will focus on a particular theme sport in the morning, and in the afternoons, we branch out to other sports and group games.

Job Description & Duties: 

Guide and instruct a range of sports / group game activities for a wide range of playing ability and age groups in a day camp setting. Foster a positive, encouraging atmosphere while working together with peers to plan camp activities. Program leaders are expected to lead a group of 10-15 elementary-aged participants in instruction and games.


Program Dates:
• June 12, 15-18 (No Training on June 19) – Mandatory paid training (40 hours)
• June 22-August 14: Sports camp program

End Date: 8/14/2026

Locations: Nuestro Mundo Community School, Van Hise Elementary

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Sports-playing background with experience in youth leadership.
• Must be available to work full-time.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to a dynamic camp environment
• Dependability, teamwork and enthusiasm required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a sports instructor/coach, childcare, or related field.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
• Ability to serve as a positive role model, mentor, and team member.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
