Department Overview:

Midwest Global Youth Academy, a Madison based Chinese language and cultural learning organization, brings cultural experiences and language learning to the Madison community. It has organized cultural exchanges between Chinese and American students, organized cultural trips to China for students and families and provides other language learning opportunities.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

                                                       Chinese Language Teacher – Summer Camp (Grades 1–3 and 4-6)

Position Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, creative, and patient Chinese Language Teachers to lead immersion learning environments for children entering 1st through 3rd grades or 4th through 6th grades during our summer camp program. The ideal candidates love working with young learners, brings energy to the classroom, and can create a fun, immersive environment that sparks curiosity about Chinese language and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver age‑appropriate Mandarin lessons that introduce vocabulary, phrases, songs, and cultural concepts.
  • Create a positive, playful, and structured learning environment that supports young children’s developmental needs.
  • Incorporate hands‑on activities, such as crafts, games, storytelling, music, and movement, to reinforce language learning.
  • Manage classroom behavior with warmth and consistency, ensuring all campers feel safe and included.
  • Collaborate with camp staff to coordinate schedules, transitions, and special events.
  • Communicate with parents and camp leadership as needed regarding student participation and progress.
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of all campers at all times.

 

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (native or near‑native fluency).
  • Ability to design engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons for early elementary students.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing, patient teaching style.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with camp staff and adapt to a dynamic camp environment.
  • Experience teaching or working with elementary learners in a school, camp, tutoring, or enrichment setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in elementary education, world languages, or related fields.
  • Experience teaching Mandarin in an immersion or partial‑immersion setting.
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices.
