Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Anticipated Hours Per Week

Schedule:

Anticipated Schedule

  • Flexible; hours based on student schedule
  • Must be available to support SOAR between 3:00pm and 6:00pm Monday - Thursday from early June through early August
  • This is a year long position with potential to extend based on performance

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Manage Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) social media accounts and support cohesive storytelling across FSL council social media.
  • Create FSL Lookbook and newsletters.
  • Develop promotional materials and support advertising of FSL events, programs, and services.
  • Participate as a brand ambassador of FSL at outreach events, including SOAR, campus resource fairs, student organization fairs, workshops, and student panels.
  • Complete assigned short-term projects that could include developing graphics, creating marketing materials (videos, brochures, posters, etc.) and digital media or capturing visual artifacts for office marketing efforts.

Qualifications:

 

  • Previous marketing experience, either in academic or professional settings
  • A willingness to create an inclusive, welcoming, and open working environment
  • Experience using various types of design software, including Adobe Suite products (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Passion for marketing, advertising, analytics, strategy, and design
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills
  • Organized and dependable work habits and willingness to take initiative
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 - should GPA fall below 2.0, a meeting with the staff supervisor would be required
  • Preferred: membership in IFC, MGC, NPHC, or PHA at UW-Madison
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check

 

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
