Department Overview:

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Duties for this important position include but are not limited to:
Draft, edit, and proofread internal communications, including newsletters, announcements, email campaigns, articles, and intranet content.
Develop communication materials that support workplace climate initiatives, employee engagement, recognition programs, professional development, and organizational updates.
Create graphics, presentations, digital signage, and other communication assets using Canva, Adobe Express, PowerPoint, or similar tools.
Assist with communication planning for surveys, events, workshops, and employee engagement campaigns.
Help maintain internal communication platforms, websites, and employee resource pages.
Collect communication metrics such as email engagement, website analytics, and participation data, then share findings with the Workplace Climate & Culture team.
Interview employees and gather stories, photos, and content that highlight workplace culture and employee experiences.
Conduct research on internal communication and employee engagement best practices.
Participate in team meetings and collaborate with the Workplace Climate & Communications Lead Intern and Organizational Climate & Engagement Manager on communication priorities, project timelines, and team initiatives.
Provide administrative and project support as needed.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Qualifications
Strong writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented and organized.
Able to manage several projects and meet deadlines.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Familiar with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Express, WordPress, or similar tools.
Experience with digital communications, photography, or video editing is a plus.
Interested in organizational culture, engagement, belonging, and workplace well-being.
Able to keep information confidential and use good judgment.
Current undergraduate or graduate student at UW-Madison in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, English, Graphic Design, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment.
