The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members, and visitors through shared cultural, social, and recreational events and experiences.

Anticipated Schedule

Flexible schedule primarily M-F during business hours, around class schedule.  Possibility of some remote hours to be negotiated.

Minimum Hour Expectation

~5 (for 20 weeks)

Unit Hours

Unit hours are primarily M-F from 8:30-5.

Unit Location

This position will be a part of the Wisconsin Union's Community Engagement Team and is housed in the Memorial Union.

Under the supervision and mentorship of the Community Engagement/Summer Camp Director:

• Assist with educational content development for a weekly licensed non-residential summer youth camp program (ages 8-16), including curriculum and daily lesson plans
• Research campus & community locations for field trips and experiential learning opportunities
• Benchmarking and data collection on comparable programs
• Research and execute marketing/outreach efforts
• Support administrative functions of the camp program, including:
  • budget development
  • State of WI licensing and Office of Youth Protection requirements
  • counseling staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training
  • building process, practice, and procedure documents library

There is an opportunity to work as a summer camp counselor following conclusion of internship role (if eligible for hire) in Summer 2027.

This position is a collaboration between the Wisconsin Union and the School of Education. The role is designed to provide the student with an oopportunity to actively practice what they learn in class within a professional setting.

The role is for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. While the hours working per week may vary, the position is limited to a total of ~100 hours of work.

• Applicants must have a declared major in the School of Education to qualify for internship
• Ability to adapt concepts for different ages, skill levels, and group sizes
• Comfort with developing both structured and open-ended content
• Attention to detail with licensing policies and practices
• Experience working with children and teens
• Self-motivation and ability to productively work independently

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
