Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Anticipated Schedule
Mainly evenings and weekends, and some additional shifts as dictated by events.
Minimum Hour Expectation
We expect ushers to be avaiable for at least one, 4 hour shift per week. Shifts are dictated by our season and rental bookings and vary week to week.
Unit Hours
Our hours fluctuate, with most shifts being in the evening, between 5pm and 11 pm. Weekends have some shifts during the day, as well as during the summer when we host conferences in the theaters.

Wisconsin Union Theater and its two venues, Shannon Hall and The Play Circle, are located within Memorial Union at 800 Langdon Steet.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Set up events in Shannon Hall & the Play Circle
Monitor access to events
Help patrons navigate the theater
Assure the safety of guests during all events
Be a general source of knowledge for the Union Theater
Qualifications:

Flexibility and Dependability
Problem Solving Skills
Organizational Skills
Ability to handle fast-paced moments followed by duration of stagnation
Preference given to applicants who can commit working for two consecutive semesters
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
