Department Overview:

The mission of the Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery program is to interact with people across campus to develop critical-thinking meat industry leaders, discover new uses for animal components to enhance animal and human health, and to provide objective expertise for educating students, scientists, and society in wholesome foods derived from animals.

Anticipated Start Date:

Immediate start if possible.

Anticipated End Date (If Applicable):

Opportunities to work consecutive semesters, breaks, and summers.

Remote Work Eligibility Detail:

This position will be on-site work.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

5-20 hours per week

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, Approximately 8 am-5 pm

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$14.00 per hour

Qualifications:

Must love meat! Previous experience in food service or food preparation is preferred, but not required. Applicants must enjoy hands-on work to prepare meat products for customers at Bucky's Varsity Meats. Food safety practices such as cleanliness and sanitation are key when producing food products that customers purchase and consume.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Organization, cleanliness and attention to detail are extremely valuable traits. Must be able to follow recipes, work with equipment safely, maintain a sanitary workspace, and work in a team environment.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Duties:

  • Daily cleaning and sanitation of the facility, equipment, and tools used in food processing.
  • Follow good manufacturing practices during every step of meat production.
  • Produce high quality ready-to-eat and fresh meat products for our retail customers.
  • Provide assistance during various meat product test trials.
  • Assist in the harvest of livestock animals.
  • Learn about meat processing as well as various cuts of fresh meats.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
