Department Overview:

The UW-Madison Chemical Safety Office, one of the offices within the Division of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), endeavors to ensure that all campus work involving hazardous chemicals is performed safely and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards. EHS is committed to the highest standards of customer relations principles for its customers, fellow staff members, students, and visitors by providing guidance and expertise to the campus community in the areas of biological, chemical, environmental, engineering, radiation, and fire safety.

FP&M works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.

Our campus customers include anyone who works, studies, visits, or lives on campus.)

Qualifications:

Current standing as a UW Madison student.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of Excel
• Completion of Chemistry 103/104 or equivalent preferred
• Experience working in a lab is a bonus

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The ChemManager+ project is a multiyear initiative to improve safety and compliance at UW-Madison. As a member of the inventory team for the ChemManager+ project, you will play an essential role in recording the existing chemical stocks that are stored in our research and teaching labs. You understand that accuracy and integrity are key as errors will have an outsized impact on the project team's reputation. You can follow procedures on correct handling and labeling of containers, enter data, raise issues, and follow all laboratory safety requirements. You understand that accuracy is extremely important. You will gain experience in chemical and environmental regulatory compliance, inventory system management, UW system processes, and data management.

This role requires direct interaction with research staff and involves handling potentially hazardous chemicals. Therefore, to be a successful candidate, you will need to provide excellent customer service and have the ability to safely perform repetitive tasks over an extended period time.
