Department Overview:

 This internship is offered in partnership with SuccessWorks in the College of Letters and Science through the Community Impact Internship Program.

The Wisconsin Academy is a place for people to connect with experts and learn from each other. Founded in 1870 to gather, share, and act upon knowledge for the betterment of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Academy today showcases contemporary Wisconsin art at our James Watrous Gallery, examines science and culture in Wisconsin People & Ideas magazine, and explores pathways to a sustainable future through the Wisconsin Strategy Initiatives. Our Academy Courses and public talks provide opportunities for lifelong learning and personal enrichment, and we recognize excellence through our annual Fiction & Poetry Awards for emerging writers and Fellows Awards for leadership in and across disciplines. We also support the Wisconsin Poet Laureate, Wisconsin Visual Artists, the Cultural Coalition of Wisconsin, and other endeavors that help us to fulfill our mission: to create a better world by connecting Wisconsin people and ideas.

Qualifications:

 Applicants must be UW-Madison undergraduate students.

**To receive a stipend or work study funding, students must be enrolled in the College of Letters and Science.**

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

● Strong written and interpersonal communication skills and basic computer proficiency
● Detail-oriented, creative, organized, and self-motivated
● Able to work independently and collaboratively
● Be able to dedicate 10 - 15 hours per week to the internship, including in-person and virtual meetings and events (schedule is moderately flexible)
● An interest in the Academy’s commitment to foster science, art, and literary inquiry in Wisconsin
● Experience speaking on behalf of groups or organizations through social media, email, and other marketing a plus
● Design experience and familiarity with software such as Canva and Mailchimp is a plus
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or web development platforms a plus

Position Summary/Job Duties:

● Develop social media content for Academy accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
● Create email campaigns on MailChimp
● Support a variety of Academy events through social media marketing
● Conduct research to build Academy media lists
● Research social media analytics, trends, and tools
● Make marketing recommendations based on Academy social media analytics

Work Study interns must complete the following additional requirements:
One 30-minute career advising appointment with a SuccessWorks Career Advisor
Participation in one SuccessWorks Careers Event (remote or in-person)
Feedback survey/short interview about their internship experience
