Department Overview:

This internship is offered in partnership with SuccessWorks at the College of Letters and Science through the Community Impact Internship Program.

Kidlinks World is a Madison based, volunteer non-profit working to support youth in both Dane County, Wisconsin and across South Africa. Our mission is to empower vulnerable children and youth through education, caregiving, and skills training.

For the third year, we are partnering with Salted Tomato Farm to support vocational training for adults with autism, and provide produce for area food pantries. Salted Tomato Farm supports the land and local food systems while providing in-depth skill training for adults with profound autism. The Garden Vocational Rehabilitation Intern will have the opportunity to learn about or better understand autistic neurology, create valuable learning resources, and have fun growing delicious, sustainable food in our garden.

40% Remote, 60% In-Person; 5 - 10 hours a week.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be UW-Madison undergraduate students.
Ability to commute to Dodgeville, WI once per week.
Must carry health insurance.
Must be available either Monday or Thursday mornings 9am-12pm.

Though all UW-Madison students are welcome to apply for this opportunity, SuccessWorks can only provide funding for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Letters and Science.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Some food gardening experience preferred
Patience and understanding for those who learn differently
Ability to work on your own, be creative, and initiate projects to improve our program

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Create visual instructional resources designed for autistic neurology
Assist adults with autism in doing gardening, cooking, and crafting tasks
Help maintain flower and food gardens
Potentially create marketing materials for our products

Work Study interns must complete the following additional requirements:
One 30-minute career advising appointment with a SuccessWorks Career Advisor
Participation in one SuccessWorks Careers Event (remote or in-person)
Feedback survey/short interview about their internship experience
