Qualifications:
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old • Preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least two years of college prior to program start • Energetic approach to learning • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration and support staff • Respect for individual differences and individuality • Experience working with elementary and middle school aged students
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
• Must be comfortable problem solving and working in a fast-paced environment. • Experience in building community within small and large groups • Proven ability to maintain a professional relationship with students while serving as a friendly support system. • Passion for working with students in grades K-12, experience working with summer camps, precollege programs, or international programs.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Group Leader’s main role in the program is to supervise and facilitate learning and socio-emotional growth. Group leaders can expect to work with a class size of 12 students and lead them through the day’s activities. This includes supervising travel between buildings on campus, assisting the course instructor during academic blocks, facilitating afternoon activities, and engaging with students during lunch. GEM features a variety of courses in the areas of: Computer Science, Sciences, Anatomy, History, Architecture, Literature, Art, Economics, Psychology, Engineering, Writing GEM runs for 2 weeks: June 16-20, and June 23-27, 2025. Candidates may be considered for 1 or both weeks. Candidates may also be considered for positions in other Badger Precollege Programs. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Complete all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at UW Madison • Participate in staff orientation before the program begins • Assist the instructor in carrying out their responsibilities during class times. • Escort and supervise your group of assigned students (up to 12 students) as they transition between different locations and activities around campus. This includes drop off and pick up, walking to and from lunch, field trips, and other transitions around campus as needed. • Supervise students during lunch/field trip block each day. • Assist in the open communication among staff members • Be responsible for taking attendance each day. • Be a role model for the students and maintain a professional relationship. • Other duties as assigned by instructor or Badger Precollege Administrative staff. Physical Demands:
Group Leaders will walk with their assigned group all over campus in all weather conditions.
