Position Summary/Job Duties:
SAFEwalkers are representatives of the University and Transportation Services and play a vital role in providing essential services and information to our community. SAFEwalkers work 2 to 3 shifts per week and at least 2 Fri/Sat shifts per month. Work shifts are available 7 days per week starting at 7pm in fall/winter and 8pm in spring/summer and ending at 1am. SAFEwalk shifts are done with a coworker walking partner that you must always remain with on shift. SAFEwalkers must remain on campus and communicate with a dispatcher for the duration of their shift. SAFEwalkers are issued uniforms, including winter coats, and must wear them on shift, and will carry and be responsible for a 2 way radio. Each shift includes about 3 hours of walking with people to their destinations or doing rounds walking around campus. SAFEwalkers also are expected to take at least 1 campus bus rides per shift. Twice they will "station" for less than an hour in locations where they are easily seen and three times take walks through campus seeking out folks that might need help. Additional responsibilities include attending regular staff meetings and trainings, giving short presentations, staffing tables at resource fairs (including during option daytime work hours), and serving as a nighttime transportation and safety resource. Priority for hiring will be given to those able to work through the winter holiday December-January. PLEASE PROVIDE UW-MADISON REFERENCES WITHIN THE APPLICATION.
Physical Demands:
Being able to be outside in many different kinds of weather. Be able ambulate or otherwise move across campus several times a night.
