Schedule:
The Lifeguarding position follows the hours of operation for the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center and Bakke Cove Pool. These hours are posted on the Rec Well website (www.recwell.wisc.edu). Lifeguards can also work aquatic events and rentals, including competitive swimming and diving events, student organizations, and certification classes.

Qualifications:
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED certification • Successfully completing a skill test out consisting of a 200-yard, 2-minute tread, 50-yard swim sequence, brick retrieval, and a 17ft surface dive • Ability to attend monthly 2-hour Lifeguard In-Service trainings to practice and maintain skill ability. • Attend monthly in-service trainings and bi-weekly skill curriculum.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED certification • Successfully completing a skill test out consisting of a 200-yard, 2-minute tread, 50-yard swim sequence, brick retrieval, and a 17ft surface dive • Ability to assist patrons in distress, both in and out of the water • Able to work in a team to maintain safety in aquatic facility and reach/ maintain department standards
Position Summary/Job Duties:
• Ensure the safety of all participants in the Aquatics center by enforcing preventative measures, promoting consistency, and remaining alert. • Intervene when necessary to maintain safety and perform any required tasks. • Maintain a high level of lifeguarding skills by attending required training and in-services. • Maintain current certification including any additional safety trainings. • Perform maintenance and cleaning duties for general upkeep of the facility. • Monitor and report accidents/incidents and issues to professional staff. • Assist as needed with setup and teardown of aquatic center events and changes of pool configuration. • Provide excellent customer service. • Attend monthly in-service trainings and bi-weekly skill curriculum.
Physical Demands:
Within this position you will be required to remain alert while on shift, as well as perform Lifeguarding CPR/AED/First Aid skills to the standard of the American Red Cross.
