Department Overview:
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more! During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to swim 25 yards of all six strokes to a Level 4 standard. At least two summer seasons or one full school year of experience as a lead swim instructor. Knowledge of American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum Preferred Qualifications: Lifeguarding certification. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or previous knowledge of Red Cross curriculum. Other Information: Opportunities to receive Lifeguarding and/or WSI Certification through MSCR.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Create and implement appropriate structured swim instruction to all participants, infants through adults. Lead teach a class of 7-10 participants, depending on experience and/or certifications with no additional assistance. Observe and evaluate swimmers based on Red Cross standards.
