Department Overview:

 The Glukhov Lab in the Department of Medicine is at the forefront of groundbreaking cardiac research involved in a wide range of research projects exploring the effects of blood pressure on heart function and how at the molecular level the heart transduces fluctuating mechanical stressors. As part of our research efforts, we work closely with animal and stem-cell based models to investigate these mechanisms.

Schedule:

 Flexible schedule with approximately 8-12 hours per week, ideally split across 2-3 consecutive sessions (e.g Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). This is an ideal role for students seeking a hands-on research opportunity alongside their academic commitments.

Qualifications:

 Current UW-Madison undergraduate student. Freshman or Sophomore preferred.
Interest in learning new skills such as molecular and cell biology techniques including RT-PCR, Western Blot, and tissue staining, and their associated analyses. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Comfortable handling dissected animal tissues.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Willingness to learn and practice new skills is essential.
Basic understanding of biological and experimental procedures.
Ability to accurately record and organize data.
Good communication skills and teamwork orientation.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s).
Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area.
Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials.

Physical Demands:

Ability to perform tasks that require repetitive motion, such as pipetting and extended sitting times.
