Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Partnership Program is a grantmaking program within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health dedicated to improving health and advancing health equity in Wisconsin through investments in community partnerships, education and research. To date, the Wisconsin Partnership Program has supported more than 600 projects representing a broad range of health and health care initiatives including leading-edge research and discovery, innovative models of education and health workforce development and partnerships for community health improvement.

Qualifications:

• Must be a UW-Madison student pursuing a graduate degree.
• Successful applicants will have some experience and/or education in any of the following areas: journalism, mass communications, science writing or public health.
• Strong writing and editing skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Demonstrated experience in reading and summarizing scientific articles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to multitask
• Strong team player with ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines
• Flexibility with priorities, assigned tasks and deadlines
• High level of professionalism with team members, community members and faculty
• Experience using and designing documents with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge of Box
• Familiarity with social media platforms


Position Summary/Job Duties:

The project assistant will support WPP's communications activities by developing content that covers the progress, impact and achievements of WPP grant recipients across the categories of research, education and community partnerships. The successful applicant must be motivated and skilled at communicating health and science stories and information to non-scientists and lay audiences. Responsibilities include:
• Review completed project reports and write brief summaries and outcome reports for lay audiences
• Manage the “Funded Projects” section of the WPP website using WordPress, including posting new grants and updating existing content

• Draft news releases for newly awarded grants

• Manage social media editorial calendar

• Assist with content development that highlights how WPP grant recipients are improving health and advancing health equity across a broad range of basic science, clinical and translational research projects, and public health and community initiatives
• Provide other communications support as needed

The Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking to fill a 0.5 FTE Project Assistant (PA) position that includes tuition remission. The graduate project assistant will have the unique opportunity to support statewide philanthropy while gaining experience in communications and science writing by covering how the Wisconsin Partnership Program and its grantees are impacting health and advancing health equity across Wisconsin.
